Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevingne… Topshop’s campaign alumni have included some of the biggest names in the modelling world, but for SS17, we’ve gone for a totally new, unknown girl… Say hello to the fresh face of Tophsop, Lily Jean Harvey, the 17-year-old student from a small town in the English countryside, who we’re tipping as the next big thing in modelling. How did you first find out you were going to be campaign girl?

My mum got the call, but I couldn’t answer because I was at school. When she told me, I couldn’t believe it! It was so surreal. It’s mad to think I’m gong to be on big billboards everywhere… my friends think it’s unbelievably cool.

What are your earliest memories of Topshop?

The first thing I owned from Topshop was a dress when I was about 11. I was really short so it had to be from the Petite range. It was red, white and blue striped, just a jersey dress. I loved it so much.

What do you like about school?

I like learning, my favourite thing is probably English Literature. We’re studying Keats’ poetry at the moment, which all my friends think is totally boring but I love it. It’s just so romantic and whimsical… like “everything is so beautiful”, “life is so fragile.” I’m guess I’m a bit romantic like that.

Which women inspire you?

Michelle Obama – she’s such a great woman and has been a really good First Lady. Bringing out all the healthy eating initiatives, being a good mother… she’s had a very strong voice. And Lana Del Rey, I think she’s cool.

How would your best friend describe you?

Stupid, in a nice way! I’m a bit reserved and detached to begin with, but once I get to know someone I’m quite loud. I think people that are instantly confident around people are kind of scary…

What do you love about summer?

I love strawberries. Strawberries and cream. I love going for a walk in the countryside, seeing all of the wildflowers and bees and butterflies. I just love that summer is so laid back and calm, you don’t need to really put any effort into anything.

What music do you like?

I really like West Coast hip-hop and rap; people like A$AP Rocky, Fetty Wap and Travis Scott. I love how ostentatious they are with their big cars and jewels and stuff.. it’s just kind of awesome.

What takes up most of your time on your phone?

Probably Snapchat. I mostly use it to talk to my friends and send each other silly videos. The ‘Explore Stories’ bit is good too – I love Vice magazine’s daily horoscopes.
