As she prepares for the exclusive launch of her first beauty guidebook Rainbow Roots at Topshop Manchester Arndale tomorrow, she sat down with us to talk how she started out, the looks we should all be recreating and whose make-up she’d love to do…

Can you introduce yourself…

I’m Lottie Tomlinson and I’m 19 years old. I’m a make-up artist and I love everything about beauty!

How did you get into the beauty industry?
When I assisted Lou Teasdale on my brother’s (One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson) tour – I was only 15! Luckily Lou liked me and took me under her wing. She taught me everything I needed to know and guided me in the right direction.

How would you describe your look?
Pretty bright and loud! I love colour and I try and think outside the box. I’m always trying new things so my style is evolving all the time, but I like to keep things quite young and casual.

What is your earliest memory of make-up?
I think I was about 12 and I started rooting around in my mum’s make-up bag, asking her ‘what does this do?’ She picked up on my interest after I’d spend hours and hours on the internet researching beauty. Eventually, she said to me: ‘you can order one thing.’

What do you love most about your job?
Being able to do what you love for a living is amazing. My passion has always been make-up. I never expected to get to where I am, but I’m loving it and making the most of all my opportunities.

What’s your advice for anyone who wants to become a make-up artist?
I’d say that the best thing to do is assist people as much as possible, that’s really how I learnt so much about beauty. Don’t give up! It’s a tough industry to get into, but if you stick at it and you’re passionate enough, you’ll get there in the end.

How did you come up with the title Rainbow Roots?
A while ago Alex Brownsell did Rainbow Roots on my hair and everyone loved it! So we decided to call the book that – I love colour, so it seemed really fitting.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
